Race for the top 4
Still very tight.

Manchester United's recent slump has brought them into the scrap.

Even Arsenal down in 10th have an outside chance. Teams like Villa with 2 games in hand.

I would say Liverpool have the easiest run in out the lot. We probably have the hardest but then we don't have any cup/European games. Leicester's last 3 are tough.

Can we do it? Heart says yes. Head will say yes if we beat Leeds and get a point against Man U.

Nice one, dealcanvey!

Makes a magnificent change from the relegation run-in that's more typical at this time of year.

Re: Race for the top 4
Our run in isn't terrible but we'll do well to remain top six, I think top four is extremely unlikely.

Top 4 is what we should believe in and strive for though.

Re: Race for the top 4
It's going to be very tight at the top, which makes a nice change.

2nd, 3rd and 4th are all up for grabs this year.

I'd be extremely happy with being top 6, I can see the top 4 being City, Utd, Chelsea and Everton.

That's it Coffee.

I am actually looking forward to our games for once.

The squad definitely look up for it.

Anything less than Europa league I would be disappointed.

Did not see myself saying that at the start of the season!

Re: Race for the top 4
Got a free hit at top four, agreed. Leicester are crying about injuries and their form has dropped off so they may drop. Everyone else around us appears to be in decent form.

Time to break out the "one game at a time" cliches. Lets smash Leeds.

Re: Race for the top 4
If our injury luck continues, and we maintain our form, it’s not just possible, but arguably likely we finish top 4.

It’s just too hard to believe those two conditions will hold out. I’m sure most of us have that nagging feeling that the wheels will fall off sooner rather than later.

It’s not deluded to be hopeful, though. We really are in the conversation now, even amongst the neutral pundits.

Re: Race for the top 4
Lily, I have that feeling constantly, but I keep getting surprised at our performances.

We're so not used to it, it's hard to enjoy it.

It’s because of the history of abuse from owners and the football gods themselves.

We’re like a dog that’s been rescued from a cruel previous owner, that cringes and shits itself when you try to stroke it or give it a treat.

Re: Race for the top 4
Last 4 or 5 games for us are favorable fixtures

It will come down to the following home games for me

Arsenal
Everton
Leicester
Chelsea

Have to win 2 of them probably, and go unbeaten

I dont think we will get top 4, Chelsea and Liverpool would be my bets to finish their with the Manchester clubs.

But if we aim for the top 4.....keep pushing and then end up 5th or 6th.....well then id be absolutely delighted.

Finishing 8th and/or finishing below Spurs from this position would be a kick in the bollocks which is mental to say and testament of how far we've come

Re: Race for the top 4
Sadly I think it will be
Citeh
Man u
Chelsea
And the bin dippers.

Leicester have huge injuries so I think we're more than likely in a battle for 5th with them, Everton and the North London filth.

Re: Race for the top 4
With 12 games left and 36 points still to play for it's still too early for any deep analysis of this, almost a third of the season left.

One thing I will say though is our last 6 are winnable on paper, and that includes Everton at home.

fraser 2:17 Fri Mar 5
Re: Race for the top 4
Liverpool look shot... Terrible last night..

Chelsea look solid, Leicester look fucked by injuries. Spurs are just Spursy, Everton shit at home.

Anything can happen but my guess would be Manu Chelsea and one other.

Got a feeling we'll fade. 6th? *

Still, everything I predict is wrong. So we'll probably... get relegated.

* Not moaning. 6th would still be a great season, all things considered. I'm enjoying the ride. COYI!

Re: Race for the top 4
Think top four will finish City, Man U, Chelsea, Spurs.

We'll fall away, but would be happy with top 8.

To see seeds of growth is more than palatable for me - nice to see us actually building something.

Lily Hammer 2:25 Fri Mar 5
Re: Race for the top 4
That’s the key, geoff. Enjoy the ride.

Football has been a great escape from all the negatives of lockdown, for West Ham fans more than nearly everyone else.

Imagine being a West Brom or Blades fan. Lockdown is probably a good relief from watching football.

Re: Race for the top 4
Yes, it's going to stay very tight until the end of the season. I would think the most likely top 3 is going to be City, Man Utd and Chelsea. I was expecting Liverpool to come good too but after the other night they do look a bit shaky. So 4th to 6th is probably going to be a very close fight between us, Liverpool, Everton, Leicester and Spurs. I can't see Arsenal and Villa making top 6.

geoffpikey 2:37 Fri Mar 5
Re: Race for the top 4
Too right, Lily.

It so refreshing just to feel positive about players and plans (except GSB) when it's so much the norm to be wracked with doubt.

It's all more baffling it's happened under Moyes (who WAS clueless at first) but, fair play to him, he's made me turn 180°.

WE ARE MASSIVE! Even if we finish 6th. :-)

The_Phantom 2:39 Fri Mar 5
Re: Race for the top 4
I still think we’ll finish 9th which at the moment seems poor but we’d have taken at the start of the season.

Finishing in a European place scares me.

Sullivan would have to invest but will he?

It’s a great ride at the moment though and let’s just see how high we can go

gph 2:43 Fri Mar 5
Re: Race for the top 4
It would be gutting if we're still in it and fuck up the last three fixtures, which should yield at least 7 points.
